MILITARY HERITAGE MUSEUM AMATEUR RADIO CLUB
W7MHM (station call sign)
Located in Punta Gorda Fl, the Military Heritage Museum’s purpose is to honor all who serve. From the Revolutionary War through modern conflicts, and across all five military branches, the Museum utilizes multiple interpretive methods to educate its visitors on the heritage aspects of U.S. military history. Through a blend of integrating its twenty thousand plus artifacts, veteran museum guides, flight and virtual reality simulators, graphics, live performance, and audiovisual; the Museum provides unique innovative experiences throughout its 17,000 sq ft. facility. The Museum also provides a safe-place for its more than 100 veteran volunteers. A place that enables them to age with purpose as they share their military service stories and those of so many who have served. Finally, the Museum is designed to be an edu-tainment family-friendly attraction, with a “you can’t get anywhere else” experience! The W7MHM radio club is comprised of about 20 dedicated individuals who all work to support the Military Heritage Museum in Punta Gorda Florida. Managed by the W7MHM radio club, the Museum currently provides an exhibit of military radios from as far back as World War II. These older and much heavier units help to show the difference between the radios of old compared to the radios we currently use. In 2023 the club spearheaded an effort to pursue an Amateur Radio Digital Communications (ARDC) grant for creation of a more permanent exhibit on “Ham Radio Past, Present and Future”, additional radio equipment, and the development of education programs. This grant has allowed us to purchase several state-of-the-art radio systems that should be very impressive to visitors of all ages who come to explore, learn, and talk on Ham radio! |
Purpose
The purpose of the W7MHM Radio Club is to provide many types of outreach programs for the children who live in Charlotte County to experience ham radio. We will be expanding our efforts from simple contacts at the museum to much more aggressive programs to get the Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, church groups, science teachers and many others involved in ham radio as an extension of the STEM programs.
